12:20 a.m. — Intersection of Old Kings Road North and Palm Coast Parkway, Palm Coast
DUI. A Palm Coast man is facing a DUI charge after he was found asleep behind the wheel of his Toyota Corolla at an intersection.
A Sheriff’s Office deputy was called to the intersection of Old Kings Road and Palm Coast Parkway just after midnight after several people called 911 about an unconscious driver and a disabled vehicle. When the deputy arrived, he found the driver asleep at the wheel with his foot pressed on the brake, according to an arrest report.
The deputy had to knock on the window repeatedly to wake the driver up and get him to place the car in park. But, the driver was so disoriented that he could not, instead turning on the windshield wipers, turn signals and turning the car on and off repeatedly.
Finally, the deputy had the driver open the car door so the deputy could physically point at the gear shift. The driver was then able to place it in park, the report said. Inside the car was an almost-empty solo cup with alcohol in it.
The driver failed the field sobriety test, but refused to take a breathalyzer test. Despite that, the deputy was able to tell the driver was inebriated from his failed field test, the man’s slurred words, the smell of alcohol and the alcohol in the car. The suspect was placed under arrest and his car towed.
10:19 a.m. — 1200 block of Palm Harbor Parkway
Grand theft. A Palm Coast man was arrested after he stole an electric bicycle from a gas station.
The victim told Sheriff’s Office deputies the e-bike was grey, with a cup holder and phone mount on the handlebars, and was valued at over $2,000. Security camera footage captured the suspect stealing the e-bike from in front of the store at 4:28 a.m.
Later in the morning, a different deputy caught site of a man matching the suspect’s description riding a purple E-bike, according to an arrest report. The deputy stopped and questioned the suspect, who told the deputy his friend had given him the e-bike.
When the investigating deputy arrived, he confirmed it was the same suspect from the security camera footage. Upon closer look at the purple e-bike, the deputies found the bike had been painted purple to hid its original gray color. Otherwise, the e-bike was also the same model with a cupholder and phone mount as the one that was stolen, the report said.
The suspect was arrested on grand theft and tampering with evidence charges.
