No good deed goes unpunished
4:13 p.m. — Whittle Place area, Palm Coast
Battery on a law enforcement officer. A Palm Coast man was arrested after deputies say he attacked two deputies who entered a canal to rescue him after he fled during a welfare check.
According to the arrest report, deputies initially located the 47-year-old man lying shirtless in front of Wadsworth Elementary School while attempting to conduct a welfare check. When a deputy approached, the man ran away. Minutes later, deputies responded to a report of a man crawling through a backyard and attempting to climb the side of a home on Whittle Place.
Deputies located the man near a canal, where he ran into what the Sheriff's Office described as a snake- and alligator-infested canal and refused repeated commands to come out. As he began showing signs of exhaustion, two deputies entered the water to pull him to safety.
While deputies attempted to rescue him, the man allegedly struggled, attempted to push one deputy's head underwater and grabbed another deputy by the neck. Deputies eventually gained control and pulled him safely to shore. He was treated by Flagler County Fire Rescue before being arrested on two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $5,000 bond.

Shopping trip ends behind bars
6:19 p.m. — Publix, North Ocean Shore Boulevard, Palm Coast
DUI. A Palm Coast man was arrested on multiple charges after a caller reported an intoxicated man wandering through a Publix parking lot looking for his vehicle.
According to the arrest report, deputies found the 40-year-old man sitting inside a vehicle with the engine running. When he noticed the deputy's patrol vehicle, he attempted to drive away, swerving through the parking lot before returning to the same parking space where he had been parked.
Deputies observed signs of impairment, including watery eyes, the odor of alcohol and difficulty maintaining his balance. Investigators also determined the man had been trespassed from a nearby gas station earlier that day after allegedly acting belligerent while intoxicated.
The man refused to perform field sobriety exercises and later refused a breath test following his arrest. While being booked into the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, he allegedly threatened to punch a deputy once his handcuffs were removed and refused to sign his DUI citation.
He was arrested on charges of DUI, refusal to accept or sign a citation, threats of harm to a law enforcement officer and obstruction without violence. He is being held on a $7,500 bond.
