A bad exit strategy
2:43 p.m. — Interstate 95 southbound at State Road 100, Palm Coast
Road rage. A 70-year-old Palm Coast woman was arrested after deputies say a minor traffic crash escalated into a physical confrontation at the State Road 100 exit ramp.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, the woman and a 76-year-old man were involved in a minor collision while exiting Interstate 95. The man told deputies the woman got out of her vehicle, approached his car, opened the driver's side door and struck him in the face before driving away without exchanging information.
Two independent witnesses provided statements supporting the victim's account. One witness reported seeing the woman's vehicle drift into the victim's lane before the two stopped on the exit ramp and began arguing. Another witness said the woman exited her vehicle, cursed at the driver and struck him before leaving the scene.
Deputies later located the woman and her vehicle at a Palm Coast residence. Both the victim and a witness positively identified her during the investigation.
Because the victim was over the age of 65, deputies charged the woman with felony battery on a person 65 years of age or older and burglary. She was also cited for leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.

2:30 a.m. — Elder Street, Bunnell
DUI. A 23-year-old Palm Coast woman was arrested after deputies say she struck multiple objects while driving drunk and nearly caused a head-on collision.
A concerned motorist called 911 and followed the vehicle, reporting it repeatedly left the roadway and nearly hit another vehicle head-on. During the incident, the driver allegedly struck a culvert, fence and mailbox before continuing down the road.
A deputy eventually located the damaged vehicle attempting to turn around in a driveway. As the deputy approached, the driver allegedly backed into a ditch.
When asked about the extensive front-end damage, the woman reportedly told deputies the vehicle "had been like that."
Deputies observed signs of impairment, including glassy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol. They also noted her shirt appeared wet and stained with vomit.
The woman told deputies she was traveling from a bowling alley in Palm Coast to a friend's house. She later failed field sobriety exercises and was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.
