Volusia voters: Early voting begins on Saturday, Aug. 8 for the primary election.
Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Aug. 15 for early voting at nine sites throughout the county. Ormond Beach's early voting site is the Ormond Beach Regional Library, located at 30 S. Beach St. In Daytona, there are two early voting sites: At the Daytona Beach Regional Library, 105 Jackie Robinson Parkway, and at the Cherry Cultural & Education Center, 925 George W. Engram Blvd., Daytona Beach.
The Supervisor of Elections Office has been busy preparing all early voting sites, which will be staffed by about 30-45 poll workers over the week-long period. On Election Day, Aug. 18, the office employs about 750 workers to help at the 92 precincts.
During Early Voting, people can vote at any site in the county. On Aug. 18, however, voters must head to the polls at their dedicated precinct.
"There's something for everyone to vote on," Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis said. "It may be a primary where the major parties are concerned, but it's also a primary for local races that may lead someone to going onto November, or it may even be finalized here in August."
Here are the races Ormond and Daytona Beach voters will see on their ballots for the upcoming primary election:
Volusia County Council at-large
- Nancy Miller, of Daytona Beach Shores. Miller has lived in the Shores for 16 years and is currently the city's mayor. She has raised $146,580.79 in campaign donations.
- Mike Poniatowski, of unincorporated Volusia County. Poniatowski has been a local for 40 years and is the president of the Tomoka Farms Village community in Port Orange. He has raised $45,465.35 in campaign donations.
- Barry Powell, of Daytona Beach. Powell is a lifelong resident of Daytona and is a local pastor and community engagement professional for Volusia County Schools. He has raised $3,165 in campaign donations.
Daytona Beach City Commissioner Zone 3
- Christos Mavronas. He has lived in Daytona Beach for 31 years and is a small business owner; he is the CEO of the Steve's Famous Diner brand. Mavronas has raised $6,870 in campaign donations.
- Quanita May. The incumbent in the race, May, a licensed therapist and small business owner, has lived in Daytona for over 20 years. She has raised $27,050 in campaign donations.
- Steve Miller. He has lived in Daytona Beach for 45 years and has been an accountant for over 40 years. Miller previously served on the Daytona Beach City Commission for one term in 1993. He has raised $4,990 in campaign donations.
Daytona Beach City Commission Zone 5
- John Counts. He is a lifelong resident of Daytona Beach and is currently a student at Daytona State College. Counts previously served for six years in the U.S. Navy. He has raised $2,375 in campaign donations.
- Aaron Harrison. He grew up in Volusia County and has been a Daytona homeowner for over a year. A U.S. Army veteran, Harrison is an
electronics assemblyman at Audioscape Engineering Company. He has raised $1,829 in campaign donations. - Willie Williams. He has lived in Daytona Beach for 57 years and is a retired assistant principal for Volusia County Schools. He has raised $8,265 in campaign donations.
Ormond Beach Mayor
- Damien Curry. A resident of two years, Curry is the director of Seton Trail Condominiums, a Navy veteran, county lifeguard and owner of Garden Boys Landscaping. He has raised $100 in campaign donations.
- George Doran. A former member the U.S. Army National Guard, Doran has lived in Ormond for three years and is the deputy fire chief at a volunteer fire department in Alachua County. He has raised $1,360 in campaign donations.
- Jason Leslie. The incumbent in the race, Leslie has lived in Ormond Beach for six years. He is the owner of an e-commerce business. Leslie has raised $17,647.50 in campaign donations.
- Lori Tolland. She has lived in Ormond Beach for 37 years. Tolland is the current Zone 1 City Commissioner and a retired registered nurse. She has raised $100,850 in campaign donations.
Ormond Beach City Commission Zone 1
- Alan Burton. He has lived in Ormond Beach for 30 years and owns real estate appraisal company Burton Valuation. He is a past director of Leisure Services for the city. Burton has raised $14,861 in campaign donations.
- Melissa DeVriese. A resident of Ormond Beach for 34 years, DeVriese is the president of Security First Insurance. She has raised $68,585.70 in campaign donations.
- Coleen McMahon. She has lived in Ormond Beach for two-and-a-half years and is a registered nurse and national director of business development for a home-health agency. McMahon has raised $7,128 in campaign donations.
Ormond Beach City Commission Zone 4
- Amber Bobak. A resident of Ormond for 28 years, Bobak currently serves on the city's Planning Board and Appeals and Adjustments Board. She works for Cains Electric as a front desk office administrator. Bobak has raised $1,062.05 in campaign donations.
- Harold Briley. The incumbent in the race, Briley is a lifelong resident of Ormond Beach. He is a real estate agent with Realty Pros Assured and formerly served on the city's Planning Board. Briley has raised $6,375 in campaign donations.
- Barry du Moulin. He has lived in Ormond Beach for 10 years and is a former member of the city's Planing Board. He is a retired inspector for the U.S. Coast Guard ad serves on the city's Municipal Firefighters' Pension Trust Fund advisory board. He has raised $850 in campaign donations.
