Child used in retail theft
6:40 p.m. — State Road 100, Palm Coast
Petit theft. Deputies arrested a 48-year-old Palm Coast woman after she allegedly used her 9-year-old daughter to help steal merchandise from a retail store.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, surveillance video showed the child concealing merchandise inside a backpack before the woman added another item to it. The pair later selected additional merchandise and used a self-checkout, where the woman allegedly failed to scan multiple items before walking past all points of sale without paying.
Store loss prevention employees stopped the pair outside, and all of the merchandise was recovered.
The woman was arrested on charges of petit theft, contributing to the delinquency of a child and failure to appear on a traffic violation. She was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $6,500 bond. The Sheriff's Office said she has two prior theft convictions in Volusia County, including grand theft.

Hit-and-run crash leads to DUI arrest
9:58 p.m. — Matanzas Woods Parkway and Interstate 95 southbound on-ramp, Palm Coast
Driving under the influence. A driver accused of leaving the scene of a head-on crash was later arrested on DUI charges after deputies located her at a nearby gas station.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, the other driver told deputies the woman struck her vehicle head-on, asked if she was okay, then drove away without exchanging information. Deputies found the suspect a short time later and observed front-end damage on her vehicle that was consistent with the crash. They also detected a strong odor of alcohol and noticed she was unable to stand without swaying.
The driver admitted she had consumed "a few drinks" and agreed to perform field sobriety exercises, where deputies reported multiple signs of impairment. She was arrested on DUI and leaving-the-scene charges. At the jail, she refused to provide a breath sample after being advised of Florida's implied consent law. She was later transported to a hospital for evaluation but declined medical treatment.
