DoorDash driver's call leads to rescue of nursing dog, eight puppies

Animal cruelty. A Palatka woman was arrested after deputies say she left a nursing American Bully and her eight puppies caged inside a garage in 97-degree heat without adequate water.
According to the arrest report, a DoorDash driver called the Flagler County Sheriff's Office after spotting the dogs inside a two-level cage through a partially open garage door. The driver reported the animals had no food, little or no water and were panting in the extreme heat. Deputies found eight puppies, about four-and-a-half weeks old, crowded together in the upper cage with a nearly empty water bowl, while their mother panted heavily in the lower cage beside an empty water bowl.
Deputies said the woman refused repeated commands to provide the dog with water, finally complying after a second order several minutes later. As Animal Control responded, she allegedly attempted to close the garage door, loaded the puppies into a cardboard box and refused multiple commands to reopen the garage, citing a text message she claimed prevented deputies from entering.
Animal Control eventually took custody of the eight puppies and their mother, all of whom were transported to an air-conditioned vehicle. The woman was arrested on charges of animal cruelty, confinement of animals without sufficient food or water, and resisting an officer without violence.

Golf cart ride ends with fugitive's arrest
5:45 p.m. — Belle Terre Parkway and Zebulahs Trail, Palm Coast
Driving while license suspended warrant. A Palm Coast man wanted in Volusia County was arrested after deputies stopped him driving a golf cart on a sidewalk.
According to the arrest report, a deputy observed the golf cart traveling along the sidewalk and through a crosswalk at Belle Terre Parkway and Zebulahs Trail, where golf carts are not permitted under Palm Coast regulations.
A records check revealed the 20-year-old driver had an active Volusia County warrant for driving while his license was suspended. Deputies took him into custody on the warrant and transported him to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.
He was later released on a $500 bond.
