Criminal mischief. Upset at being denied a sheet pan, an unknown man tipped a display case over inside a local gas station convenience store, causing about $400 in damages.

According to an incident report, the man had asked a store employee for a sheet pan to help him make a cheesecake. When the employee said they couldn't give him a sheet pan, the man became agitated and took a piece of wax paper instead from the chili and cheese dispenser area.

The employee told him that she would have given that to him if that was what he was looking for. In response, the man gave her the middle finger and said profanities to her. She told him he was no longer welcome in the store, at which point he damaged the display case.

The employee told police the man shouted at her, "be careful in there alone" before he left. The store wishes to press charges and would like the suspect trespassed if located.

Ride-along

6:08 p.m. — 100 block of South Atlantic Avenue, Ormond Beach

Drunk person. Police gave a 60-year-old Ormond Beach man a courtesy ride home after he consumed three gin and tonics at a local restaurant.

The restaurant manager told police that the man, who had paid his tab, tried to pay it several more times. When the bartender found out the man intended to drive home, the manager offered him a ride instead. The man refused but soon fell asleep inside the restaurant.

When he woke up, he attempted to get in his car, but the manager called 911.

When police arrived, he was still sleeping in his car. Police eventually woke him up and asked him to perform field sobriety tests to see if he was fit to drive; the man refused but took the officer up on the courtesy ride instead.
