Grand theft. An 82-year-old Ormond Beach man called police after his luggage was taken from his driveway on his way to the airport.
According to an incident report, the man scheduled an Uber ride to the airport and brought three pieces of luggage outside, placing them by the roadway. While waiting for his Uber, he received a phone call and walked up his driveway toward the shade to be able to see his phone screen.
When he returned to the roadway, his luggage was gone. The man told police he was gone for about two to three minutes.
The responding police officer explained that, as that day was also his scheduled garbage pickup day, someone driving by could have mistaken his luggage as trash.
The man wished to press charges. The luggage and its contents was valued at about $1,500.

Fraud. A warrant for arrest because of a missed jury duty?
A Daytona Beach woman taking care of her father received a call from an alleged deputy stating she needed to pay $800 to avoid being arrested for missing jury duty and a court date. The "deputy" also said she couldn't talk to anyone about the warrant because of its nature, and instructed her to go to a nearby bank to send the funds, according to an incident report.
The "deputy" also told her she had submitted an affidavit through certified mail with her signature, and that she needed to come in for a signature test and fingerprints.
The woman sent the funds and then traveled to the courthouse in DeLand for the signature and fingerprints, at which point she was informed she had been scammed. Soon after, she was contacted again and the caller apologized, saying "his friends were being stupid and weren't supposed to take advantage of women and children." He asked for a screenshot to refund her, but the funds were never returned.
She wished to press charges.
