Civil complaint. Police responded to a home after receiving a call regarding a burglary that had occurred the previous day. Upon arrival, a woman told police that her landlord — whom she had a handwritten lease with on a sheet of loose-leaf paper — had been calling her cell phone and showing up unannounced because she and her roommate were two months behind on rent.
On June 18, the woman's roommate said he witnessed the landlord enter the home through a window in the backyard, and as he yelled about the late rent, he kicked her 11-year-old Chihuahua because the dog was barking, an incident report states.
They declined to press charges, however, citing their landlord's age (he is 93).
Police contacted the landlord, who said that he tried to enter the home through a window, but that the roommate let him in when he heard noise coming from the backyard. The landlord said he was frustrated because of the unpaid rent and said he wanted the tenants to move out.
Police told the landlord that he must evict them through a court process and advised him not to enter the home through windows, as well as give a 24-hour notice before coming.

Vandalism. A 39-year-old Ormond Beach resident self-reported that he had driven through his neighborhood's community gate with his golf cart after having issues with it.
According to a police report, the man called 911 about an hour after he drove through the entry gate, stating it had failed to open for him and admitting he had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Once police arrived, they noticed the gate was detached from its support poles and lying on the ground.
The man told officers that he had gone to the store earlier and had issues with the gate, but was able to exit the community. But upon his return, the gate failed to open and caused him to become frustrated, so he drove through it.
Police await contact with the community's homeowners association to see if charges will be pursued.
