Look, ma: ‘HANZ’
8 p.m. — First Block of Ryberry Lane. Criminal Mischief. The victim’s privacy fence had the word “HANZ” spray-painted on it, causing $120 in damages. No other fences in the area appeared to be vandalized. No suspects.

Pit bull attack
9:30 a.m. — First Block of Birchshire Lane. Animal Bite. A woman, 57, said she had been bitten in the upper left thigh by the neighbor’s pit bull dog. She said she was watering her plants in front of her home when the dog broke free and ran toward her. She said she did not provoke the dog in any way.

The dog’s owner said the dog was on a leash, which was secured to a trampoline. The owner said a verbal dispute might have excited the dog. She said it was the first time the dog had ever been aggressive; the dog is always friendly with the children at the home.

The dog was missing at the time of this report. Animal control reported to conduct its own investigation.

Passing strange
10:15 p.m. — Mile Marker 294 of Interstate 95. Motor Vehicle-Other. A deputy reported that he responded to the scene of a traffic crash fatality Nov. 16, on Interstate 95, when he observed a Palm Coast Fire Police vehicle, a 2008 Jeep, parked in the northbound median next to the guardrail.

While the vehicle was parked and unoccupied, a large and heavy piece of metal went through the rear window of the Jeep and came to rest on the driver’s side floor, under the steering wheel. The rear window was destroyed.

It is undetermined how the piece of metal came through the window, but it could have been from a passing vehicle. There are no injuries or known witnesses.

‘I’m old’
9:16 p.m. — 2500 Block of County Road 60, Bunnell. Drunk Driver. A deputy responded to a crash that occurred when a Dodge truck swerved into oncoming traffic. The deputy detected an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the 65-year-old driver. He asked the man whether he had any medical condition that would prohibit him from taking a field sobriety test. “Yes,” the driver said. “I’m old.”

The man failed to perform the tests adequately, including a failure to recite the alphabet. “I don’t know that stuff very well,” he said.

The man was arrested for driving under the influence, DUI with property damage and DUI with injury.

FOGGY MEMORY

Who’s got the button?
3 a.m. — First Block of Jungle Hut Road. Narcotics. The deputy noticed the back window of a Honda Accord at this location was foggy.

A woman was in the driver’s seat, and a man was in the passenger’s seat. They were both sleeping until the deputy knocked on the window. They said they both lived in Palm Coast but were sleeping in their car in the park. Both appeared to be nervous.

While the deputy was checking their information, he saw the man hand something to the woman. He questioned them about this, and they denied it. He also saw a baggie protruding from the woman’s purse, and he questioned her about it; she said there were no drugs in the bag — only buttons.

He asked both to exit the vehicle, and they complied.

Then the man ran. He climbed a fence and kept running, despite being told to stop. Other units were called to assist.

The woman, meanwhile, was still at the car. The deputy returned and noticed the baggie was now gone. She was searched, and a baggie with less than 20 grams of marijuana was discovered in the front of her pants. Two pipes were located in her purse, as well.

The woman was transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility. The vehicle was towed.
