Ormond Beach's new oceanfront hotel is almost ready to open its doors.

Approved by the City Commission in 2023, the new Residence Inn by Marriott at 251 S. Atlantic Ave. is slated to open sometime in August. The five-story hotel will have 137 rooms, all equipped with a full-size kitchen. Most rooms will be studios, though there are six one-bedroom suites and a couple two-bedroom suites. Of the 137 rooms, 104 have an ocean view.

Additionally, the Residence Inn will feature a bar, a restaurant and a pool overlooking the ocean.

Jeremiah Drummond, the hotel's general manager, said it's an exciting opportunity to be part of opening a brand new hotel in town. The beachside has seen recent resort renovations, but new construction on an oceanfront lot hasn't occurred in at least a decade.

"Having a Marriott name here in Ormond is going to be huge," Drummond said. "I think having this extended-stay product — having something that guests can stay longer with their families ... would be good for that."

As part of construction, the hotel also added a new wooden public beach access ramp at the Seminole Avenue approach. Construction, Drummond said, is ahead of schedule.

Ormond Beach Mayor Jason Leslie recently toured the property. In an email to the Observer, Leslie said he was impressed with the project.

"The exterior and interior of the hotel are coming along phenomenally, and we are all very excited to welcome the Residence Inn by Marriott to the community," he said.

Having the city's support is huge, said Drummond.

"We want to work hand in hand together," he said. "Make the community better and stronger and keep it growing from that standpoint."

Drummond has worked for Marriott for almost 25 years. Though he ran a hotel in Key West for two years, this will be the first beachside hotel he's been part of since its opening.

Ormond Holdings LLC, a company based out of South Carolina, purchased the properties at 251 and 264 S. Atlantic Ave. in 2022 for $2.05 million. The land on the west side of A1A previously housed a Florida Hospital, which was demolished in 2019 after sustaining significant hurricane damage.

That parcel will serve as a parking lot for the new hotel.
