Not drunk, a streetfighter

DUI. A 62-year-old Ormond Beach man who got in a crash while drunk driving told police his injuries had been caused by "fighting Mexicans for money" and losing.

The Sheriff's Office reports a deputy was on patrol when he encountered the crash. The man's car was partially in a swale, and the airbags had been deployed, but the man said the damage occurred in an incident a few days before.

The man appeared disoriented and was focused on finding his phone, the deputy noted in the report. He refused medical treatment and transport.

Deputies then spotted open alcoholic beverages in the vehicle, and based on physical signs of impairment and the field sobriety test results, he was taken to jail.

Cigarette dispute

6:35 p.m. — First block of Westchester Lane, Palm Coast

Battery. Deputies arrested a 34-year-old Palm Coast woman who shoved and slapped her ex after he refused to buy her cigarettes.

According to her arrest report, the couple had been broken up for a day when she demanded he go to the store to buy her cigarettes when he got home from work. When he declined, the woman stole his father's medical marijuana card and refused to give it back unless he did what she asked.

The ex told police she then began yelling racial slurs at him, so he went outside to smoke. When he came back inside, she hit him.

The woman denied the allegations, stating it had been a verbal argument. But due to her ex's visible injuries — including a red mark on the side of his head — she was taken to jail.
