Neighbor against neighbor

12:35 p.m. — 100 block of Beach Street, Ormond Beach

Aggravated assault. An Ormond Beach man pressed charges against his 74-year-old neighbor after his neighbor almost ran him over with his SUV.

According to a police report, the 60-year-old victim was walking on a sidewalk when he heard a car honking behind him. He turned around and saw his neighbor drive up on the sidewalk, forcing him to move out of the way to avoid being hit.

The two then got into a physical altercation; the neighbor pushed the victim, who then punched him. The victim told police that earlier that morning, his neighbor had been yelling at someone in the parking lot, and the victim yelled at him to stop yelling.

Police then spoke with the neighbor, who said he had been speaking with an Uber driver that morning when the victim started yelling at him. He said that he saw him walking on the sidewalk later that day and pulled over, at which point the physical altercation took place.

When asked by police why he pulled over, the neighbor said the victim had thrown something at him, though police noted he stated more than once that he had parked behind where the victim was walking. Police then asked how the victim could've thrown something at his car, to which the neighbor replied, "I didn't honk or anything. What is he trying to say, I ran him over?"

Police then asked why he didn't call police after he was punched. The neighbor said he forgot his phone at home.

While the victim wanted to pursue charges, he told police he could change his mind in the future because they will continue to be neighbors. No arrests were made.

Suspicious man

9:26 a.m. — 300 block of North Nova Road, Ormond Beach

Suspicious person. Police responded to a local coffee shop after a barista reported that a man had come in, acting suspiciously and asking questions about the Jewish synagogue across the street.

According to the incident report, the man — wearing a sweater, sunglasses and a baseball cap — came in earlier that morning but didn't buy anything. Instead, he asked about what time the synagogue opened up and whether it was an "atheist church or a Methodist church."

He left the store after a few minutes but quickly returned. While the barista assisted customers, the man stared at her from around a corner, walking away when they made eye contact.

After taking the barista's statement, police went over to the synagogue, where they discovered the man was inside attending a service. The man told police he was visiting from Orlando.
