Flagler County students show improvement on Florida assessment tests

Overall English and math scores in the district rose 3% from a year ago.

Flagler County School District students showed marked improvement in many subjects and grade levels on Florida's 2024-25 assessment tests compared to the previous year.

Scores are broken down into five achievement levels to show how much support a student might need going forward. Level 3 is on grade level with Level 5 considered exemplary.

A Flagler Schools press release highlighted the district's gains:

In English Language Arts, the Flagler Schools saw an overall gain of 3%, with 58% of students achieving a Level 3 score or above. Grade 3 scores rose 3% to 64% scoring Level 3 or above in primary literacy. Grade 7 scores rose 5% with 56% scoring Level 3 or above. And grade 10 improved 4% with 59% of scores reaching Level 3 or above.

Overall math scores also rose 3% with 61% of Flagler students achieving Level 3 or above. Grade 3 students showed the most growth with a 10% improvement as 70% of the students achieved at least a Level 3 assessment. Geometry scores rose 5% with 65% recording a Level 3 or higher. Grade 5 scores also rose 5% with 60% scoring Level 3 or above.

In science, biology scores rose 4% with 72% of students scoring Level 3 or higher. Grade 5 science scores grew 5 percentage points with 58% scoring Level 3 or above. In social studies, U.S. history scores rose 4% with 70% of the district's students achieving Level 3 or above. Ciivis saw a 2% gain with 71% scoring at Level 3 or above.

"These scores reflect the hard work of students, teachers and staff, and demonstrate ongoing progress in learning across the district," the press release stated.
