A man who was found guilty of sexually abusing his granddaughter has been sentenced to two consecutive terms of life in prison.

Michael Wayne Jennelle, 53, of Palm Coast, was found guilty of seven rape and molestation charges against a child under the age of 12 in March. Jennelle's victim reported Jennelle in 2023 and told deputies that the abuse began when she was 7 and lasted for several years, according to Jennelle’s arrest report.

On April 16, Jennelle was sentenced by Judge Dawn Nichols of the Seventh Judicial Circuit, a Flagler County Sheriff's Office press release said. During the hearing, Jennelle heard victim impact statements from those affected by Jennelle's actions.

Sheriff Rick Staly said thanked Nichols for the strong sentence imposed.

“Justice was served, and this pervert will not see outside of a prison cell for the rest of his life,” Staly said. "I pray the victim gets the counseling and emotional support she needs for the trauma he imposed and commend her bravery to come forward.”
