A Missouri fugitive and registered sex offender was arrested Wednesday after moving into a Palm Coast home, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, its Fugitive Apprehension Unit was notified Wednesday morning that 40-year-old Scott Granden of St. Louis, Missouri, had moved into a home on Perthshire Lane about 12 hours earlier. Investigators said Granden was wanted in Missouri on two warrants for failing to register as a sex offender and leaving the scene of a crash. He was also wanted on a felony battery warrant out of Jacksonville.
Deputies with the Fugitive Apprehension Unit, Problem Area Crime Enforcement Unit and K-9 Unit surrounded the Palm Coast home and made several announcements directing Granden to come outside.
The Sheriff’s Office said Granden refused to come to the door, prompting deputies to breach the door and continue giving him commands. When he still refused to come out, deputies brought in an FCSO K-9. After commands from the K-9 handler and barking from the dog, Granden eventually exited the home and was arrested without further incident.
“If you’re a fugitive, Flagler County is the wrong place to hide,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This dirtbag thought he could flee to Florida, enjoy the sunshine and escape law enforcement. Instead, someone ‘saw something, said something,’ and our deputies put him in handcuffs before his boxes were unpacked.”
Granden was arrested on charges of resisting without violence and violation of probation, as well as the active fugitive warrants. He was taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he was being held without bond.
The Sheriff’s Office said Granden is a sex offender following a 2022 conviction for abusive sexual contact in Atlanta, Georgia.
