A 39-year-old Holly Hill man was arrested after the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said he fled from law enforcement during a pursuit through the Daytona Beach area Tuesday night, Aug. 11, that ended when he crashed into a deputy’s patrol vehicle.
According to a social media post from the Sheriff’s Office, Jason Therrien was driving a BMW with a license plate assigned to a Nissan when he fled from an attempted traffic stop.
The Sheriff’s Office said Therrien drove recklessly during the pursuit, weaving through traffic, traveling on the wrong side of the road, running red lights and reaching speeds of 40 mph over the posted limit in residential areas.
Holly Hill police attempted to stop the vehicle, and Daytona Beach police deployed stop sticks, which Therrien struck before continuing to flee. A Volusia County sheriff’s deputy then deployed a second set of stop sticks. Therrien struck those as well but continued driving as his tires deteriorated, at times speeding around blind turns in the wrong lane.
The pursuit ended at Old Dixie Highway and Walter Boardman Lane, where authorities said Therrien lost control, ran off the road and crashed into a stationary deputy’s patrol vehicle that had its emergency lights activated. Deputies then took him into custody.
The Sheriff’s Office said Therrien faces three counts of aggravated reckless fleeing, along with charges of possession of crack cocaine, fentanyl, cannabis and drug paraphernalia, and driving an unregistered vehicle. He was being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond.
