The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrested three men after serving a search warrant at a Palm Coast home as part of an ongoing investigation into an overdose death.
According to FCSO, members of its Special Investigations Unit, Major Case Unit and SWAT team served the warrant Aug. 6 at 1 Roxbury Lane. As SWAT deputies arrived, they said they saw Michael McDermott, 39, run from the back patio into the home toward the main bedroom. Deputies also saw several occupants move from the living room toward the bedroom.
The SWAT team breached the front door and secured four people without incident, including McDermott, Matthew Green, 38, and Kavin Price, 50.
During a search of the home, detectives reported finding fentanyl and drug paraphernalia in plain view throughout the residence. They also found several ripped, wet plastic bags in the shower. Investigators said the condition and location of the bags, combined with the occupants' movement toward the bedroom, were consistent with an attempt to destroy evidence.
McDermott, Green and Price were arrested on charges of possession of fentanyl, tampering with evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia. McDermott was also charged with obstruction without violence.
The three were taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. Price was later released on $6,500 bond. McDermott was being held on $7,000 bond, while Green was being held on $6,500 bond. The fourth person in the home was not arrested.
“This warrant started from an investigation into an overdose death, and we will continue that investigation until we can hold the poison peddler who caused that death accountable,” Sheriff Rick Staly said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, McDermott had previously been arrested 15 times in Flagler County, including on narcotics-related charges involving cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine. His previous arrests also included charges of kidnapping, grand theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, domestic battery, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and resisting an officer with violence. He has served one state prison sentence.
Green had previously been arrested 13 times in Flagler County, including for sale of oxycodone. His prior arrests also included charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling, robbery with a firearm, shoplifting, domestic battery and violation of probation. He has served multiple state prison sentences.
Price had previously been arrested eight times in Flagler County, including for possession of a controlled substance. His prior arrests also included charges of unlicensed carrying of a firearm, failure to appear and violation of probation. He has served one state prison sentence.
“These dirtbag poison peddlers all have lengthy arrest records. It’s time they all go to prison,” Staly said. “Now, they’re back in the Green Roof Inn where they belong, and they may be facing even more charges once we finish our homicide investigation.”
The overdose death investigation remains ongoing, and investigators said additional charges could be filed.
