PGA Tour Champions event moves from Jacksonville to the Hammock in Flagler County

The Constellation Furyk and Friends Golf tournament, a PGA Tour Champions event, will be held for the first time in Flagler County at the Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa from Oct. 5-11.

The resort hosted a media day on Tuesday, Aug. 11, to discuss the move to Flagler County, the upcoming event and the community outreach as a result of the funds raised from the event.

“I think what we’re trying to share today is just how excited we are to be here at Hammock Golf Resort and Spa,” said Ryder Williamson, partnerships manager at the Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation. “This is all for charity. It’s our main mission.”

Williamson said that, since launching the tournament in 2021, the foundation — which is run by pro golfer Jim Furyk and his wife, Tabitha — has raised about $1 million a year for local charities. Last year, the funds supported over 50 organizations and helped thousands of children and families in Northern Florida.

“I feel like we all come together for a common goal and that is to help others,” said Tabitha Furyk, tournament founder and philanthropist. "This tournament is truly about having a great time. There’s world class golfers. Some people say it’s like an adult Spring Break. But at the end of the day, all of these funds are going towards charity and we’re making a difference in people’s lives.”

She emphasized that they are not leaving the Jacksonville charities behind. Instead, they want to expand their footprint into Flagler County.

Organizations like Flagler Education Fund and Ormond Beach-based charity Provision Packs, which provides meals to children in need, have already been recipients of the foundation. Jim and Tabitha Furyk presented a check for $30,000 to Provision Packs at the media day event. 

“Feeding kids has always been a passion of ours,” Tabitha Furyk said. “We’re going to feed 100 additional kids that were not being fed otherwise. That’s going to grow to 270 kids in the 26-27 school year.”

Jim Furyk, who won 17 PGA tour events including a major victory at the U.S. Open in 2003 and has multiple PGA Tour champions wins, is excited about the move to The Hammock Beach Golf Resort and Spa. 

“It’s an amazing golf course,” Jim Furyk said. “Of all the golf I’ve played and all of the travels I’ve had; if you look at the state of Florida, this resort, this golf course, especially the 9th and 18th hole [are special]. I’ll put the 9th hole up as one of the best holes in the state of Florida.”

The tournament committee will be doing an extensive set up for two weeks prior to the tournament to create an exciting, socially interactive atmosphere. Typical attendance to this event is in the thousands. 

The boardwalk is the most robust fan zone that you’ve ever seen,” Tournament Director Adam Renfroe said. “We’ll have video boards to watch golf and watch football. There’s going to be a golf simulator. We’re going to have a concert stage right there on the boardwalk by the 18th hole.” 

All Friday event tickets include an evening concert by country music singer and songwriter Billy Courington. Complimentary access will be given to youth age 17 and under, college students and members of the military. 

The tournament team is hoping it will draw a large crowd, including past participants from St. Johns and Duval counties, as well as new attendees from Flagler and Volusia counties. 

“The players like nothing more than to play in front of 10,000 people,” Jim Furyk said. “I think it’s going to set up great. It’s going to look wonderful on television, but more importantly I think our guys are gonna love the golf course."
