1946-2022
William B. Dodson (Bill), 76, of Ormond Beach, passed away on June 30, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Jane Dodson; his children, Mark Councilor, Christina (Edward) Grabowski, Chris Councilor, Angela (Todd) Braid, and Michelle Dodson; his grandchildren, Amy Santella, Lauren Councilor, Emily Councilor, Ashton Braid, Ashley Councilor, Reese Kelly, Maya Councilor, Ben Councilor, Jackson Councilor, Chandler Jane Braid, Olivia Grabowski, Cora Dodson; his brothers, James Dodson and Joseph (Denise) Dodson; his mother-in law, Jane DeWalt and many other family members and friends.
Born in Corpus Christi, TX, the son of a naval aviator, Bill lived in many places throughout his childhood including Virginia Beach, VA, and Kodiak, AK. Upon graduating from Kodiak High School, he attended the University of Kansas and graduated from Memphis State University with a degree in architecture. Bill began his career with Holiday Inn, an opportunity that led him to Lakeland, FL.
A remarkably talented commercial interior designer, Bill founded Wm.B.Dodson,Inc. in 1978 with projects spanning across the country. Among his many accomplishments, Bill’s work in designing the interior of the Daytona Beach Airport expansion project in 1992 earned the distinguished Aurora award by the Southeast Building Conference. On four separate occasions, Bill’s company received the prestigious honor of being named in Interior Design magazine’s “Top 100 Giants”.
For decades, Bill was a loyal supporter of Give Kids the World and co-designed the property’s Gingerbread House restaurant. He also led the donation efforts to supply the furnishings for the original villas in the complex. A passionate authority in local history and proponent of historic preservation, Bill’s involvement with the Ormond Beach Historical Society contributed to the preservation of the MacDonald House. Bill was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Club of Ormond Beach.
Bill loved doting on his grandkids and his passions included collecting antiques, the Florida Gators, international travel, genealogy, and gathering family and many friends in his home.
