Alcohol run

2:26 a.m. — 800 block of South Atlantic Avenue, Ormond Beach

Burglary. Police arrested a 19-year-old Bunnell man and a 17-year-old Palm Coast teenager who tried to steal alcohol from a local restaurant.

According to an arrest report, the 19-year-old told police that he and four friends had been exploring an abandoned movie theater and hotel in town when the 17-year-old suggested he knew of a restaurant where they could get alcohol. The pair walked to the restaurant, with the teenager entering the building for the attempted theft, while the 19-year-old kept watch outside.

The restaurant's security guard took notice and went to confront the 19-year-old, at which point both suspects fled. Police encountered the 19-year-old less than a mile away and took him into custody. He was "shirtless, sweaty, with the bottom of his jeans wet and sandy," according to the police report.

Didn't want to stop

9:29 p.m. — First block of Riverside Drive, Ormond Beach

Fleeing/eluding. A 42-year-old Ormond Beach man was arrested after he failed to pull over for a traffic stop, telling police he chose not to stop because he wanted to get home.

Police responded to a trespassing complaint from a local restaurant, where employees said the man was drunk and had just left the parking lot. Police initiated the traffic stop in front of the restaurant, but the driver accelerated to about 15 mph over the speed limit.

The man continued to drive over the bridge and turned onto Riverside Drive, where he later came to a stop. Police report the man was unsteady on his feet and "stumbling throughout commands."

The man told police he had three beers at the restaurant, noting "they were higher in alcohol content, comparable to whiskey," according to the arrest report. He confirmed he had been aware of the traffic stop but wanted to to return to his home.

He was taken to jail.
