Matanzas High School lacrosse players Addison Alred and Trinity Johnston won the girls high school division with their adopted team at the 18th annual Father’s Day Invitational, hosted by Florida United Lacrosse, June 20-21 at the Indian Trails Sports Complex in Palm Coast.
Alred and Johnston played with the Miami Chaos, which dominated its competition at the tournament.
Brandie Alred, Matanzas’ girls lacrosse coach and Addison’s mom, had reached out to the tournament director asking if there were any teams in the high school division that needed some players.
“They sent me a list of contacts and I emailed them,” Brandie said. “Bill O’Connell [coach of the Chaos] said a couple of his midfielders weren’t able to make it, so he would love for them to play. We met him Saturday morning, got the jerseys and then they played all weekend.”
The Chaos won four games by a combined score of 61-5, including two shutouts. Johnston scored seven goals and added 11 assists over the weekend, while Alred had nine goals and 10 assists.

“They were such a welcoming team,” Brandie Alred said.
The two Matanzas players were invited to play with the Miami team again at the IWLCA Presidents Cup on Nov. 21-23 in Tampa.
The Father’s Day Invitational drew about 150 boys and girls lacrosse teams in divisions from 8u through high school.
Matanzas High School graduate Tate Conner has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Brewton-Parker Christian University, an NAIA school in Mount Vernon, Georgia.
Conner led the Pirates with a .404 batting average, 15 runs scored and 23 hits. He struck out just twice in 67 at-bats. He played center field and batted in the first two spots.
“I’m super happy for the kid,” Matanzas baseball coach Sean McManus said. “He definitely deserves to be playing somewhere. He’s just an all-around athlete. He was a real spark plug there at the top of the lineup.”
Conner will join Flagler Palm Coast baseball players Nole Hemmerle and Jordan Gonzalez, who also signed with Brewton-Parker.
Conner is the second Matanzas baseball player to sign with a college this year. Pitcher Nolan Schmidt signed with Minnesota North College, a junior college baseball program.

Matanzas graduate RJ Cerasi has committed to play soccer at Daytona Beach Christian University. He’ll be a part of the school’s new program.
“RJ’s hard work, dedication and love for the game have earned him this incredible opportunity,” Pirates boys soccer coach Beto Aguilar said. “We are proud of everything he has accomplished and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
