The McBroom family, of Ormond Beach, was selected as Ormond Memorial Art Museum’s featured family from the museum's Aug. 7 Free Family Art Night event.
In a statement to the museum, the family — Dennis, Nhi and their son Ethan — said they were motivated to attend the event after seeing that Linda King was hosting a pet portrait class.
"A combination of celebrations are upon our family with our son Ethan starting college at UF and it being my wife and Ethan’s mother Nhi’s birthday," the statement reads. "My wife has always treasured homemade gifts over anything else, so this turned into the perfect Friday evening fun event for her birthday in the Ormond Art Museum classroom."
Art runs in the family, as Ethan’s grandmother Carol was an artist. She would do crafts, drawing, and printing events at the McBroom's home when she visited.
"It was a fun time sitting and drawing together and thinking about our personal family art times in the past with Carol and our three sons," the family said. "We all drew our dog Trevor and his friend Tank. Trevor loves wearing his bow tie for special occasions! It was great catching up with Mrs. King.”
OMAM’s Family Art Night takes place from 5:30-7 p.m. on most first Fridays of the month. All art supplies are provided. All ages are welcome. The next event will be held Sept. 4.
