The Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens has announced a Call to Artists for the creation of a permanent public sculpture honoring veterans of the Gulf War, including those who served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
This significant public art project will result in a landmark installation within the museum’s gardens— an inspiring space where art, nature, and remembrance come together to honor those who fought for freedom.
The selected artist or artist team will design, fabricate, and install a sculpture that reflects the defining characteristics of the Gulf War: precision, unity, bravery, and national pride. A central narrative element of the project is the historic “100 hours” ground campaign — symbolizing the speed, coordination, and effectiveness of the mission.
The vision for the sculpture emphasizes:
“This tribute is an opportunity to honor not only the service of our Gulf War veterans, but also a moment in history when our nation stood united with clarity of purpose,” said Stephanie Mason-Teague, executive director of OMAM. “Through this sculpture, we aim to create a place of reflection, pride, and education for generations to come.”
Professional artists and sculptors with experience in public art and large-scale installations are encouraged to apply. Artists from across the region and nation are invited to submit qualifications.
The deadline to submit a proposal is Aug. 31. An artist will be selected in September, with a target installation of Spring 2027.
