Preventing or obstructing extinguishment of fire. An inmate allegedly damaged a fire suppression sprinkler in his cell after becoming angry when detention deputies did not respond to him.
According to a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, deputies responded to the Flagler County Inmate Facility after learning that an inmate had broken the fire suppression system in his cell.
Surveillance footage showed the inmate standing near his cell door before moving toward the fire suppression sprinkler. Moments later, water could be seen spraying from the area of the sprinkler.
Another inmate told deputies he saw the man near the sprinkler with his laundry bag and observed him tampering with it, though the witness said he could not tell what the man intended to do.
The inmate told deputies he had pressed a button in an attempt to get detention deputies’ attention. When no one responded, he became angry and wrapped his laundry bag around the sprinkler before intentionally pulling on it in an attempt to set it off or break it, according to the report.
Based on the surveillance footage, witness statement and the inmate’s admission, he was charged with preventing or obstructing the extinguishment of a fire.

Driver found asleep behind the wheel
11:17 p.m. — East Moody Boulevard and North State Street, Bunnell
Driving under the influence. Police arrested a 22-year-old man after he was reportedly found asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle that was stopped in the roadway and still in drive.
According to a Bunnell Police Department report, an officer responded to what was initially believed to be a crash. Police determined there had been no crash but found the driver apparently unconscious behind the wheel. An officer performed a sternum rub to wake him, but the man briefly woke up before falling back asleep.
The man refused medical treatment and was later observed leaning against his vehicle for balance. Police said he was speaking rapidly, muttering and stuttering. He agreed to perform field sobriety exercises.
During the exercises, police reported that the man missed heel-to-toe steps, stepped off the line twice, took the wrong number of steps and improperly turned. He also put his foot down three times during the one-leg stand and stopped the exercise before completing it.
The man was arrested and taken to the Flagler County Inmate Facility. While there, he reportedly said he was “tipsy.” Two breath samples registered 0.143 and 0.146.
During an inventory of the vehicle, police found an 18-pack of Budweiser containing one can that was still cold to the touch. The vehicle was then towed.
