Sign of a prank

1:23 a.m. — First block of West Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach

Petit theft. Police arrested a 25-year-old Lake County man after he took a sign from a local restaurant and placed it in the path of incoming traffic, where it was destroyed soon thereafter.

According to a police report, witnesses said they saw the man drag the sign from in front of the restaurant to the grassy median in the middle of the road, and then into incoming traffic, where it was hit. When police initially spoke with the suspect, he said that he was unsure of what was going on but that he saw a car hit the sign.

Later, he admitted to police he did move the sign, saying, "he thought it would be funny to do," but that he hadn't intended for it to be struck by a car.

He was taken to jail.

Parking lot disturbance

8 a.m. — 500 block of South Yonge Street, Ormond Beach

Loitering or prowling. A 19-year-old Holly Hill man was arrested after he was confronted by employees of a local accounting firm who saw him trying to open car doors in their parking lot.

The man, who according to police was shirtless and dressed in his underwear, was seen by a witness talking back to the employees, waving his hands and flexing his arms, according to the police report.

During the investigation, police discovered he had also checked car doors at a parking lot for a business across the street, where he did enter a vehicle.

No one wished to pursue charges, but they did wish for police to trespass him from both properties.

When police spoke with the man, he also made statements about how he had killed his father and others. He was taken to jail.
