Flagler Schools is being honored as one of the nation’s leaders in the instruction of college-level coursework and the successful outcomes for students.
The International Education Group at Cambridge, a partner with Matanzas High School and its Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) program, has named Flagler Schools its U.S. District of the Year, Small District Division.
The AICE program, a staple at Matanzas since the 2018-19 school year, caters to academically proficient students as an international pre-university curriculum and examination system.
“This award reflects the dedication of our educators and the ambition of our students,” said LaShakia Moore, superintendent of Flagler Schools. “Programs like Cambridge help our students think deeply, explore new ideas and graduate ready for the opportunities ahead.”
The Cambridge AICE program at Matanzas is a globally available three-year curriculum offering specialized courses designed to prepare students for honors degree programs. By promoting rigorous academic standards, the program establishes a solid foundation for further studies at the college and university levels.
Demonstrating how smaller districts can deliver big opportunities for students by expanding access to advanced coursework and encouraging participation in rigorous academic programs, Flagler Schools investment in Cambridge programs has helped more students engage in challenging coursework that strengthens critical thinking and prepares them for college and career.
“Being recognized at the national level speaks to the culture our students and teachers have built together at Matanzas High School,” Matanzas Principal Mike Rinaldi said. “Our Cambridge AICE program challenges students to think critically and push beyond expectations. We’re proud to see their hard work translate into real opportunities for their future.”
Representatives from the International Education Group at Cambridge will present Flagler Schools with this award at the May Matanzas High School faculty and staff meeting.
