The Volusia Flagler YMCA was awarded a $5 million grant in state appropriations for renovations to existing facilities in Volusia County and towards a new location in Flagler County.
The appropriations funds were championed through the state congress by Rep. Chase Tramont, Sen. Tom Wright and Rep. Thomas Leek. The funding will be divided among several critical projects throughout the region, meant to enhance amenities and safety for the community, according to a press release from the Volusia Flagler Family YMCA.
Chris Seilkop, Volusia Flagler Family YMCA CEO, said they are all very grateful to the representatives’ and Gov. Ron DeSantis’ support in securing the grant.
“These renovations and the development of the new Flagler County Family YMCA are a testament to the YMCA’s dedication to serving the needs of our vibrant community,” Seilkop said. “We look forward to implementing these improvements, which will undoubtedly enrich the lives of our members and contribute to a healthier and stronger community.”
The projects include: the comprehensive overhaul of the Ormond Beach Family YMCA facility, the planning of the new Flagler County YMCA location, creating a state-of-the-art soccer field at the Deltona Family YMCA, upgrading the air conditioning system at the DeLand Family YMCA, and the installation of sidewalks from camper cabins to the bath houses at YMCA Camp Winona in DeLeon Springs.
