Flagler Palm Coast’s 2026 International Baccalaureate class received its IB exam scores last month. The result was one of the most successful IB Diploma rates in school history.
A total of 43 IB seniors, representing 84% of the class, earned their IB Diplomas. That is significantly higher than in recent years, Assistant Principal Mandy Kraverotis said. It is one of the highest in program history, said Phil DeAusutino, the school’s IB guidance counselor, who has been involved in the program at FPC since day 1.
“We are so excited about our students' IB results,” Kraverotis said. “They are a testament to the dedication, perseverance and hard work of all of our students and faculty members.”
In addition to the program’s rigorous coursework and exams, IB students complete several independent projects that count toward their diploma score including the Extended Essay and the Community, Action and Service Project.
“These projects, coupled with the mentorship from their IB faculty sponsors, truly make the International Baccalaureate Program a unique experience that leaves students poised for college and career success,” Kraverotis said.
To earn the IB Diploma, students must complete all core components and score at least 24 points on the IB exams with at least 12 points coming from Higher Level (HL) two-year courses and at least nine points coming from Standard Level (SL) one-year courses.
Students must test in all curricular areas: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences and Mathematics.
“In both SL and HL courses, all of FPC's IB exam rates have risen significantly over the past three years, bouncing back from COVID-era scores,” Kraverotis said. “Our teachers have adapted to curriculum and exam changes in many of these courses,”
Kraverotis said they are especially proud of the teachers in four courses where FPC exam results exceeded IB world averages: Literature (Daniela Mastropierro and Concetta Lee), History of the Americas (James Hackett and Steve Von Glahn), Sports and Exercise Science (Jamie Machado) and Math Applications and Interpretation (Scott Warren).
Several students scored well above 30 points on their exams and five earned a perfect scored of 7 on an exam.
“Earning the highest mark of 7 is extremely difficult and should be recognized,” DeAugustino said. “The results of this class will not only show up in a diploma rate, but it will be evident in the success our IB grads exhibit at some of the nation’s top universities.”
