The National Sexually Transmitted Infection Awareness Week, April 9-15, provides the Florida Department of Health-Flagler an opportunity to raise awareness about STIs and how they impact people's lives.

It is a chance to reduce STI-related stigma, fear and discrimination and ensure people have the tools and knowledge for prevention, testing, and treatment, according to a health department press release.

One of the primary services and goals of DOH-Flagler is to reduce the rate of STIs in Flagler County and to prevent the development of disease-related complications through early identification and treatment.

The health department has developed a comprehensive program for preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and for providing treatment to those who have been infected.

Dr. Stephen Bickel, the Flagler health department's medical director, and Jennifer Kennedy, the Ryan White operations and management consultant, lead this program with Amanda White and Leslievette Garcia.

The April 8 Flagler Health Matters show on Flagler Broadcasting featured Dr. Bickel along with the Ryan White team. To listen, go to flaglerbroadcasting.com/podcasts/flagler-health-matters.
