Flagler Schools has named Craig B. Uppercue as the new director of the Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center, also known as the Flagler Auditorium, and K-12 visual and performing arts.

Uppercue will begin his new role on July 8. He succeeds auditorium director Amelia Fulmer, who will retire July 31 after working as an educator and administrator with Flagler Schools for nearly 40 years. The two will work together during the overlap period to help ensure a smooth leadership transition.

Uppercue comes to Flagler Schools from the Volusia County School District, where he served as the district's fine arts specialist overseeing visual and performing arts programs. He previously served as artistic director at Athens Theatre in DeLand and is an adjunct faculty member at Stetson University.

He holds degrees in music, educational leadership and curriculum and instruction, and is completing his doctorate in education at Liberty University.

“I am honored to join Flagler Schools and lead the Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center,” Uppercue said in a district press release. “I look forward to building on Amelia Fulmer’s legacy while continuing to strengthen arts education and community partnerships throughout Flagler County. I’m truly excited to be able to have the opportunity to support the students, faculty and staff of Flagler Schools.”

The auditorium, which is on the campus of Flagler Palm Coast High School, hosts professional performances, community events and student productions. Students are also given the opportunity to work with industry professionals in theater operations including lighting, sound and house management.
