High 5: Runners compete in second-annual Pioneer Mile run

  1. The second-annual Pioneer Mile run was held Feb. 27 at Pine Trail Elementary. To qualify for the run, boys had to run a 8:15 mile and the girls had to run a 9:15 mile during the school year. Fifty boys and 30 girls qualify. Samuel Hebert was the top finisher for the boys with a time of 5:57. Matthew Hucka and Christopher Terrell placed second and third, respectively. Lauren Lancing was the top finisher for the girls with a time of 6:46.  Madison Wilson and Madison Opalewski placed second and third, respectively.
  2. Former Flagler Palm Coast wrestler Michael DeAugustino, who currently wrestles as a freshman for Northwestern University, placed third in the Big Ten Championships in the 125-pound weight class. 

  3. FPC football's Donovan Montoyo, who starred at quarterback his junior year and who sat out the majority of his senior year with a knee injury, announced his commitment to Fresno City College. FCC is a public community college in Fresno, California.

  4. Matanzas' baseball team handled rival Seabreeze 8-5 the night of Friday, March 6, at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex. The Pirates scored 5 runs in the top of the first inning, and the defense didn't give up a score until the sixth inning. It was the Pirates' third victory of the season.

    FPC soccer player Luis Corazon scored a hat trick at the Florida Athletic Coaches Association's All-Star Classic on March 7 at Celebration High School.
