FPC weightlifting on states: ‘We are looking to win’

Bulldogs weightlifting hopes to return with a state championship and individual titles.

The Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs weightlifting team celebrated four individual regional championships and a third-place finish in team competition Friday, April 1, at FPC.

Kendrick Thomas (129), Dante Bell (154), Colton Chinn (238), Mike Astro (heavyweight), who also won their district titles, will go to the FHSAA State Weightlifting Meet looking to be crowned a champion again.

“Everybody exceeded their goals, and we’re looking to win as a team at the state championships,” coach Duane Hagstrom said.

Other than the four region champs, senior Dillan Walls also advanced, and Nicolai Murray advanced for Matanzas.

Thomas will go in as the only top seed, and Astro and Bell will be seeded at second and third, respectively. Hagstrom believes they all have a good chance to take first place and join 2013 lifter Devon McIntire as state
