Win and they’re in

The Matanzas Pirates (7-1, 3-1) redeemed their only loss of the season, which was a shutout, by shutting out Pine Ridge 39-0 on senior night Friday, Oct. 23, at Matanzas.

Senior Andre Bodison scored the first 14 points for the Pirates, sacking the Panthers’ quarterback in the end zone for a safety, catching an 10-yard touchdown pass from first-time starter Ryan Perry and returning a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown to give Matanzas a 14-0 lead.

“I knew I had to go out with a big boom for my last home game at the ship,” Bodison said.

Mackenzy Wager, who played limited snaps, scored on a 23-yard run, and Perry ran for a 43-yard score and tossed another to Doug Wilson. Patrick Tully added a 25-yard field goal.

Up next for the Pirates are the Deltona Wolves, the most important game to their playoff hopes. The winner will advance to the playoffs.

“I believe we can win the game, but how hard we practice and how well we prepare will determine who the winner will be,” Bodison added.

The game will be Friday, Oct. 30, at Deltona.
