In the regular season finale, Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs defeated its crosstown rival, the Matanzas Pirates, 52-14, on Friday Jan. 30, at Matanzas High School.

From the start of the fourth quarter to the end of the game, FPC dominated the Pirates, allowing only 3 points per quarter. Matanzas only scored four points in the second half.

Anthony Brown led all scorers with 13 points, while Enrique Bush and D’John James added 11 and nine respectively. The Pirates top scorer was Sabastien Denis.

“I knew what we were up against, and everything we did in this game was preparation for the district tournament,” FPC’s coach Gary McDaniel said. “On defense we wanted to give them a lot of pressure and take number 22 (Madison Mlinac) out of the game a little bit and clog everything out, and it worked out. I thought the timing of the game wasn’t really good, because our minds are on districts.”

Though the night ended in a loss, Matanzas began the game honoring its seniors, who were Denis, Tahiem Shakir, Mlinac, Michael Mohamed and Marcus Bryan.

“Over these past four years, I've gotten close with my teammates and my coaches, and I’m definitely going to miss them and this school,” Mlinac said. “We continued to fight, and we never gave up through any adversity.”
