The Golden Lion drew quiet the crowd Saturday and Sunday with its first ever Seafood Festival.

The festival featured tents with small plates of fresh seafood available for $1-5.

“It’s really exciting to see this take off,” said Chris Marlow, who spearheaded the festival project. “We’ve kind of repositioned ourselves in the recent years to be more about fresh seafood and get away from the fried food thing. We thought that (the festival) would be a great way to showcase that.”

In addition to showing off their menu items of oysters, Maine lobster, Florida prawns and crabs, the festival also featured a sushi-grade seared ahi tuna sandwich as well as a grilled swordfish sandwich and a crawfish broil.

“We’re on the beach and (fresh seafood) is what people want, so let’s give it to them,” Marlow said.

But the Lion did not just provide fresh seafood. Through a 50/50 raffle, the eatery also raised money to make another donation to the Resource Center in Bunnell, the food pantry that the Golden Lion has partnered with through the sale of its key lime tartar sauce.
