PALM COAST — After leading the Flagler Palm Coast girls soccer team to its first Final Four appearance, seniors Sarah DiLoreto and Ashley Friedman signed their letters of intent to continue playing at the collegiate level.
DiLoreto signed with Thomas University, in Thomasville, Ga.
The Night Hawks are a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and compete in The Sun Conference.
DiLoreto, a speedster, tallied 14 goals and 12 assists as a senior. She added 17 goals and eight assists as a junior.
Friedman signed with Nova Southeastern University, in Fort Lauderdale.
The Sharks are a member of NCAA Division II and compete in the Sunshine State Conference.
Friedman was a staple as part of the Lady Bulldogs’ defense. This summer, Friedman will head to Austria to compete in the United World Games as part of the U19 Elite Soccer team, which includes graduating seniors and current college freshman players who have been recruited from across the country.
In coach Pete Hald’s 23 seasons, he has signed more than 40 players into college soccer.
"They have been part of something special," Hald said of DiLoreto and Friedman. "Not only winning our first regional championship, but they have taken on the responsibility of mentoring the younger players. This is something that we take very seriously here at FPC. They have a been a huge part of our success, and I'm very proud of them and their efforts."
Polite signs with Baylor
Marcus Polite, a senior at Flagler Palm Coast High School, signed his National Letter of Intent for weightlifting at Baylor University, in Waco, Texas.
Polite recently broke FPC’s bench-press record in the 154-pound weight class with 290 pounds. (The record was 285 pounds.)
Polite will be a member of Baylor’s Olympic-style weightlifting and powerlifting teams.
