The Flagler Palm Coast boys cross-country team finished second in the District 1-4A meet for the first time since 2006 and will advance to the regional meet, which will be in Gainesville.

The Bulldogs finished with 47 teams points, just 19 points behind district champion Mandarin (28 points). All seven runners finished in the top 25.

Markell Peck led the way, finishing fourth overall in 16 minutes, 51 seconds. Brandon Roa was just a second behind, finishing fifth overall in 16:52. The rest of the team finished as follows: Tyler Diniro (10th, 17:16), Ashton Garrett (11th, 17:18), Ka’Deem Wynn (17th, 17:48), Luis Cordero (22nd, 18:16), Jonathan Ling (24th, 18:24).

The girls team finished fifth and did not qualify for regionals, but two individuals did: Sophia Clark finished ninth in 20:34, and Darien Halliday finished 13th in 20:46. Because Clark and Halliday finished in the top 15, they advance as individuals to the regional meet.

Tommy Tant set for Nov. 9-10, including new contest
The 14th-annual Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic, presented by Nautica, returns to Flagler Beach on Nov. 9-10.

This annual weekend event honors the life of Flagler Beach surfer Tommy Tant, who died in 1998 from an aortic aneurysm. This weekend celebration includes surfing, music, food and art to raise money for scholarships, the local food bank and The Marfan Foundation.

This year, Red Bull brings a new contest to the Tommy Tant: the Red Bull Top Whip Tow-At, which allows the best aerialist surfers to pick their own jet ski drivers. This invite-only competition will take place at noon Saturday.

Contestants include professional surfers Evan Thompson, Blake Jones, Jeremy Johnston and Jesse. This event is free to the public.

The Tommy Tant hosts more than 300 surfers who compete in three pro divisions and 12 amateur divisions.

Enter the surf contest online at www.tommytant.com by Sunday, Nov. 3, for a guaranteed spot.

Surf competition begins at 7:30 a.m.

The all-day, out-of-the-water festivities include live art with Patrick Maxcy, raffle, sponsor booths and DJ.
New to the event this year, the Flagler Beach Jamboree, presented by Nautica, will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, at Veterans Park. The jamboree features 14 local restaurants combined with a full night of live music, dancing, silent auction and face painting.

A family pass for two adults and two kids under 12 is $40. Individual tickets are $20, youth tickets are $10, and individual tickets are $5. Tickets sold at event.
