FPC boys cross-country wins 5-Star, girls take third

The Bulldogs are back-to-back champions.

The Flagler Palm Coast boys cross-country team captured the 5-Star Conference meet championship on Saturday, scoring 34 team points to beat out second-place DeLand (57 points) and third-place finisher New Smyrna Beach (76 points).

Brandon Roa, Markell Peck, Ashton Garrett and Kadeem Wynn all earned 1st Team All-Conference honors.

Roa led the way for the team, finishing fourth overall in 17 minutes, 28 seconds.

The rest of the team finished as follows: Peck (fifth, 17:31), Garrett (sixth, 17:52), Wynn (eighth, 18:00), Diniro (11th, 18:10), Luis Cordero (17th, 18:23), Jonathan Ling (23rd, 18:39), Mario Martinez-Cuevas (25th, 18:42), Eddie Hernandez (27th, 18:47) and Hayden Ore (55th, 20:20).

The girls team finished in third place, with 86 team points. Seabreeze won the conference, with 22 points; Orange City University took second (82).

Sophia Clark led the way for the girls team, finishing ninth overall in 21:03. The rest of the team finished as follows: Josie Davis (13th, 21:39), Darien Halliday (14th, 21:44), Anna Walls (21st, 22:14), Carissa McClellan (29th, 22:59), Devonne Friday (38th, 23:40), Myla DeFord (39th, 23:42) and Baylee Mills (49th, 24:06).

Clark, Davis and Halliday were named to 2nd Team All-Conference.

We got spirit! Flagler cheerleaders shine at East Coast Conference competition
The Flagler County PAL cheerleaders were proudly represented Oct. 13, at the East Coast Conference cheerleading competition in Daytona Beach.

The Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee and Midget squads all took first place in their divisions. The Jr. Midget squad placed second.

All four competitive cheer level squads will now advance to the Pop Warner regional cheer competition, which is a three-day event that will take place Nov. 29, in Kissimmee.

Cars and baseballs: Matanzas to host car show
The Matanzas High School baseball team will host a car show 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in the bus loop in Matanzas High School parking lot.

Registration begins at 3 p.m., and the show is free.

Donations will be accepted. All money raised will go toward the baseball program.

Run For Our Lives race this weekend
The Flagler Humane Society will hold its fall festival, Run For Our Lives 2013, on Saturday at Princess Place Preserve.

The event will feature a four-mile run, and two-mile walk with your dog and a fall festival.

Registration will be available the day of the race.

Focus on Flagler Families golf tourney: Nov. 2
The Focus on Flagler Youth Coalition will host its first golf tournament, Focus on Flagler Families, will take place Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Pine Lakes Golf Club.

The shotgun start will begin at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $65 per player, or $250 for a foursome.
