The abstract paintings of Ormond Beach artist Antoinette Slick and California’s Jenny “Remond” Balisle were hung Oct. 26 at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum, 78 E. Granada Blvd, for the “Through the layers: Two artists revealed” exhibition, scheduled to run through January.

“These painters use their art to explore their mental and spiritual potential, and to communicate their insights,” according to Jay Williams, who guest-curates the exhibition. “(Abstraction) allows them to focus on layers of realtiy that exist beyond or beneath their everyday perceptions.”

Slick says she bases most of her work off of yearly painting trips to Massachusetts, but she depends on Florida for its color and light.

“I consider myself a colorist producing work that is semiabstract to totally nonrepresentational,” she says. “The viewer is free to identify in what whatever way he chooses.

Admission to the gallery is free, with a suggested $2 donation.
