Flagler Palm Coast scored seven runs in the first inning and eight runs in the second en route to a 15-0 mercy-rule victory Tuesday night over Mainland.

+ FC United advances three teams in State Cup
Three teams of the FC United soccer club have advanced in Florida Youth Soccer Association’s State Cup — the tournament that determines the best competitive soccer club in each age group in Florida.

The U18, U17 and U16 boys teams all advanced to the next round.

This marks the first time in the club’s history that more than one team has advanced out of group play.

The U18 boys team made it to the Final Four last year, and the boys are hopefully headed back after winning their group.

“Our defense played extremely well the entire weekend,” said coach Micah Clukey.

The U17 boys team also relied on defense in two group match ties. The boys will play April 14 and April 15, in the challenge round.

“Going undefeated is something to brag about,” said coach Reg Monsanto.

The U16 boys team struggled with injuries leading up to the group stage of State Cup. However, the team won two of its three games to win the group.

“We have worked really hard in training preparing for State Cup,” said coach Noah Braun. “It is great to see their hard work, dedication and passion produce the results from this past weekend.”

Because the U16 and U18 teams won their respective groups, they move straight to the Round of 16, which will take place April 28 and April 29, in Auburndale.

+ Flagler Palm Coast boys lacrosse beats Chiles
A quick rearrangement of games and a 24-hour notice didn’t slow down the Flagler Palm Coast boys lacrosse team Wednesday night, as the Bulldogs beat Tallahassee Chiles, 5-4, behind Shane Noble’s three-goal performance.

The Bulldogs had 25 shots on goal, but only managed to net five. Noble led the scoring with three goals and one assist. Cheyne Devens had two goals and one assist.

This was the first game of the season in which the Bulldogs didn’t have three or more scorers.

Next up, FPC hosts Centennial High School (Roswell, Ga.) noon Saturday, March 31. Centennial is currently ranked No. 3 in Georgia, according to FPC coach Ryan Andrews.

“We have some tough games ahead of us,” Andrews said. “If we advance past our district, we play the winner of the Ponte Vedra/Creekside bracket. Our goal now is to prepare for the postseason.”

FPC will be the No. 1 seed in the District 6 tournament next month.
