With the pitch of several horseshoes, Flagler County residents and dignitaries formally held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday, July 16, opening the new tournament-style facility.
The venue is home to the Flagler County Horseshoe Pitching Club, which currently has 72 members and hopes to have 100 by the end of the year, according to Tom Martone, president of the club.
Built to the standards of the National Horseshoe Pitching Association, the courts project began in February. The venue features 18 courts, storage for maintenance equipment and a picnic pavilion.
County officials are also working with the Flagler County Horseshoe Pitching Club in hopes of landing local and state tournaments at the park near Plantation Bay.
“We, as a club, promise you’ll get a return on your investment,” Martone said at Monday’s ceremony.
The courts are located at Old Dixie Park, 1250 S. Old Dixie Highway.
