In one word: Domination.
The Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs are the epitome of soccer supremacy so far this season.
FPC (19-0-2) won four games during winter break. The Lady Bulldogs outscored opponents 16-1 en route to winning the Bobcat Invitational tournament, in Gainesville.
Back in action this week, FPC defeated 5-Star Conference opponent Pine Ridge, 8-0, Wednesday night.
Senior midfielder Miranda Campbell powered the Lady Bulldogs with five goals. Freshman Christen Barney had one goal and two assists. Josie Davis also had one goal and two assists. Gabi Giuliano had one goal. Cara Warren, Maeve Dineen and Sarah Diloreto each had an assist.
Campbell has upped her season total to 28 goals and 15 assists, which leads the team and the two-county area of Flagler and Volusia counties.
Barney has 24 goals and 11 assists in her freshman season, while junior Victoria Martins has eight goals and four assists. Davis and Diloreto each have five goals.
So far this season, FPC has outscored opponents 82-4. Senior keeper Haley Lademann has given up three goals through 21 games, with 17 shutout s —breaking the old FPC single-season shutout record of 15.
Coach Pete Hald, who is in his 21st season, said the team’s defense has been critical.
“One of the biggest differences this year compared to last year is we have a better possession game,” Hald said Friday. “That has helped the defense, and has helped create a ton more chances to score.”
The Lady Bulldogs continue their season 7:30 p.m. Friday, at rival Spruce Creek. The two teams tied, 0-0, earlier in the season. Hald knows it could come down to FPC and Spruce Creek for the district championship later this month.
Hopefully we have a better game in us because we are going to need it,” Hald said. “Spruce Creek tonight will be a huge challenge.”
