+ Matanzas’ White signs to play football at Navy
Matanzas running back Shawn White has signed to play football at the U.S. Naval Academy, according to Pirates coach Keith Lagocki.

White, who was scouted by several NCAA Division I programs, made his official visit Feb. 3 to Feb. 4, to the Annapolis, Md., campus. Lagocki confirmed via text message Sunday, Feb. 5, that White has officially signed.

During his senior season, White ran the ball 127 times for 867 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had 13 catches for 161 yards.

White also played defensive end. He had 73 total tackles, seven sacks, three forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.

In the North Florida Shriners All-Star game Jan. 28, White was named the game’s Most Valuable Player for his offensive performance. In the game, White ran the ball 13 times for 62 yards and three touchdowns. He also had seven tackles and two quarterback pressures while playing defense.

Last season, the Midshipmen went 5-7 and missed out on a bowl game.

+ Indian Trails Mustangs finish in third place
In the inaugural season, the Indian Trails Mustangs soccer team finished in third place in the St. Johns County Middle School Athletic Association.

Nine teams competed in the league.

The Mustangs (7-2) outscored their opponents, 63-9. Coach Pat Gould, who helped begin the program, hopes to bring middle school soccer to Indian Trails and Buddy Taylor next school year. Gould hopes boys teams can develop, too.

He said the Mustangs lacked depth for most of the season, but he hopes that changes next season.

The Flagler Bad Boy Wrestling Club competed in the state championships Sunday, Jan. 29, in Manatee County.

The organization finished second in the state, just 10 points out of first place.

This was the second year for the Flagler youth wrestling program, which was started by Flagler Palm Coast High School wrestling coach Bobby Bossardet. When the program began two years ago, there were about 65 youth wrestlers. It has since blossomed, and now, more than 225 wrestlers between third and eighth grades are involved.

+ Matanzas, FPC both finish second in state cheerleading
Matanzas and Flagler Palm Coast both finished in second place in the state Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Florida High School Athletic Association Competitive Cheerleading Championships, which took place in Kissimmee.

Matanzas competed in the Class 1A small non-tumbling division.

Flagler Palm Coast competed in the Class 2A small non-tumbling division.

Matanzas coach Kellie Doucette and FPC coach Stacia Collier both were proud of how their girls responded to adversity at the competition.

+ Palm Coast Gymnastics wins first competition
Palm Coast Gymnastics won its first competition of the season Jan. 28, in Tampa.

The competition included more than 4,000 athletes.

The Level 8 team featured Allie Burnett, Sierra Noble and Hanna Wisniewski.

The Level 7 team included Julieta Martinez, Emmalee Kenny, Olivia Hurd, Emily Bell and Peyton Halliday.

The Level 7 and Level 8 teams won first place.

Palm Coast Gymnastics also had a Level 9 individual compete: MacKenzie Fairchild won first place on the vault, third place in the floor exercise, and third all-around.

Palm Coast Gymnastics’ next competition will be the Presidential Classic Feb. 17, at ESPN’s Disney Wide World of Sports.
