+ FC United U13 girls win Region Cup
FC United’s U13 Girls team won the Florida Youth Soccer Association’s Region B Cup championship, 1-0, in double overtime, April 1, in Clay County.

Region B covers teams from St. Johns, Flagler, Duval, Clay, Seminole, Brevard, Alachua, Orange and Volusia counties.

The team now advances to the President’s Cup, which will be played April 21 and April 22, in Auburndale. There, the team will face the winners from the other three regions in Florida.

+ Matanzas softball routs Atlantic
Matanzas scored four runs in the first inning and eight runs in the second Thursday night as the Lady Pirates defeated Atlantic, 19-2.

Christina Reynolds (2-1) was the winning pitcher for Matanzas, striking out four and issuing zero walks in five innings.

Marisa Magnuson went 3-for-3 with a double, two singles and two RBIs. Ashley Pelose went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Amber Johnson and Gabrielle Prickett both went 2-for-4 and combined for four RBIs.

“We had a lot of good, hard contact this game, and some hard hits led to fielding errors for Atlantic,” Matanzas coach Sara Novak said.

+ Bulldogs baseball loses to Sandalwood
Flagler Palm Coast plated three runs in the first inning Friday night, but the Bulldogs weren’t able to hang on, and they lost to Sandalwood, 7-5, in a District 1-8A matchup.

FPC (8-8) will likely be the third seed in next month’s district tournament, while Sandalwood will be the No. 1 seed.

After jumping out to a 3-0 lead, the Bulldogs went quiet until the fifth inning. Sandalwood plated one run in the second inning and then two runs each in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

The Bulldogs got one run across in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t keep the rally going.

Josh Greiner went 3-for-4 with four RBIs for the Bulldogs. Greiner, the team’s starting third baseman, had three doubles and scored a run. Lorenza Williams went 2-for-4 with one run scored.

FPC plays 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at New Smyrna Beach.

+ Pirates tennis upends Flagler Palm Coast
The Matanzas boys tennis team (10-3) swept Flagler Palm Coast, 7-0, Thursday afternoon.
