The Flagler Falcons, a Flagler PAL Junior Pee Wee football team, ended its season Saturday, Nov. 19, after falling to the Port St. Lucie Pirates, 28-6, in the state semifinals.

The Falcons were one of 28 teams still playing in the nation.

The Falcons went undefeated during the regular season, and finished with a 13-1 record. For the season, the Falcons outscored their opponents 433-79.

Coach Korey Kasch said the success of this year’s team — which won the East Coast Conference — was a combination of a great group of players and the dedication of the coaching staff.

“This year’s team was made up of kids from four different teams from the previous year, and the kids really had to grow together throughout the year in order for this year to be a success,” Kasch said.

The coaching staff includes Kasch, Patrick Kleinfelder, Eric Acevedo, Victor Paci, Darrell Thomas and Jason Cowles.

“I am extremely proud of our players and coaches this year, and we hope to grow from this season in the future,” Kasch said.

In the team’s first season, the Flagler Prospects U13 AAU baseball team won the fall state championship Sunday, Nov. 13, defeating Orlando Diamond Dawgs, 11-8, in the title game.

The Flagler Prospects played two games Saturday and two Sunday, at the Fields of Fame, in Apopka. The tournament consisted of two eight-team brackets. The Prospects won their bracket, and then defeated the Diamond Dawgs in the championship.

“These boys have gelled incredibly in only a few short months, and so have the parents,” said Keith Stuart, whose son, Jeffrey, plays on the team.

The team is coached by Hector Caraballo, Chris Conklin and Bo Mitchell.

The Flagler Prospects is a travel baseball program with teams in the U12, U13, U14 and U16 age divisions. Most players are from Flagler County.

There are more than 50 players currently in the program, which was started in 2010 in the U14 division.

Keith Stuart, who helped begin the program, said the idea was to keep youth baseball players playing travel ball on Flagler County-based teams, and also to serve as a feeder program to the high schools.

Tryouts for next season will take place in mid-December.
