The Flagler Youth Orchestra began nearly seven years ago with about 10 students. Today, the FYO instructs nearly 250 aspiring musicians on various string instruments.

As a program through Flagler County Public Schools, students are able to practice string instruments two days per week and perform in at least three concerts over the course of the year.

The Jonathan May Memorial Outreach Concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at the United Methodist Church, in Bunnell. It's a free concert and the FYO asks that patrons make a monetary donation and/or non-perishable food donation to The Sheltering Tree. The concert will honor Conductor and Music Director Jonathan May — who helped build the orchestra to its prominence today. May died on Feb. 27, 2010.

Then at 7 p.m. March 2, the orchestra will perform its “Teach Us Love” concert at the Flagler Auditorium. Cost is $6.
