Barbara Grantz, 88, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 23rd,2026.
Born in Oxford, England, in 1938, Barbara began her career as a photographer’s assistant. In 1961, she married Lee Grantz, a U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant. Throughout Lee’s military career, they were stationed at various locations across the United States, including extensive time in Omaha, Nebraska, and Asheville, North Carolina. Following his retirement, they settled in Palm Coast, Florida, in 2001.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit touched everyone she met. She had a special love for children and animals—especially cats—and enjoyed a good cup of tea, a bowl of ice cream, gardening, and the beach. Her role as “Nana” extended far beyond her own family, as she lovingly embraced and cared for many children throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Greta; her beloved husband, Lee; and her brother, Malcolm, sister-in-law Pat, and nephew Rob.
Barbara is survived by her son, Lee Grantz (Shelley) of Palm Coast, Florida; her daughter, Lori Shelton (Lyn) of Spruce Pine, North Carolina; her granddaughters, Kayleigh Stiehl (Jake) of Omaha, Nebraska, and Tessa Shelton of Boone, North Carolina; her great-grandsons, Morrissey and Elliot Stiehl of Omaha, Nebraska; her sister, Audrey Clark (Bob); nieces Deb, Amanda, and Lisa; nephews Ian and Graham, and many great nieces and nephews all of Oxford, England; as well as many dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and friendship.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date in North Carolina.
In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Barbara’s honor to the Flagler County Humane Society or AdventHealth Hospice Care East Florida.
