Two "Launch to Learning" community outreach events are scheduled in July to help families learn about Voluntary Prekindergarten options.
The events, hosted by the Flagler County Education Foundation in partnership with Early Learning Coalition of Flagler & Volusia and Community Foundation and United Way of Volusia Flagler counties, are scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon July 11 at the George Washington Carver Center, 206 E. Drain St, Bunnell, and 10 a.m. to noon July 18 at the Hidden Trails Community Center, 6108 Mahogany Blvd., Bunnell.
The events are free and open to all area families with children from birth to 5 years old.
“Kindergarten readiness starts before the first day of school,” Teresa M. Rizzo, executive director of the Ed Foundation, said in a press release. “These events are an opportunity for families to learn what VPK offers, meet local providers and get help taking the next step toward enrollment.”
Research shows VPK helps children enter kindergarten more confident and ready to learn. High-quality early childhood programs have been linked to measurable long-term benefits for children and communities.
At both events, families will be able to meet private VPK providers, learn about Flagler Schools' VPK options, access resources for parents of children from birth to age 5 and receive assistance with VPK registration. Kona Ice will be on-site.
