In its first year on the road, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida’s Mobile Farmers Market helped expand access to fresh produce for hundreds of Volusia County residents.
From April 1, 2025, through March 31, 2026, the Mobile Farmers Market achieved the following impact:
The Mobile Farmers Market is part of Second Harvest’s broader “Food is Medicine” initiative that is focused on increasing access to fresh produce for children, seniors and families at risk of experiencing hunger in underserved areas. Through partnerships with healthcare providers and community organizations, participants receive recurring access to fruits and vegetables that can support healthier lifestyles and improved long-term health outcomes.
Throughout the year, the market distributed a variety of produce, including mangoes, melons, avocadoes, sweet potatoes and corn.
“This first year of the Mobile Farmers Market has shown that when healthy food is accessible, it can make a meaningful difference,” said Derrick Chubbs, President and CEO at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. “These numbers represent more than pounds of distributed food — they reflect families gaining reliable access to nutritious options and taking important steps toward better health.”
Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida also recently received funding support from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), helping position the Mobile Farmers Market for continued growth and expanded outreach.
“This program helps remove barriers that can make healthy choices difficult for many people," said Maureen Hawkins, director of Health & Hunger Strategies at Second Harvest. "Through the produce prescription initiative, we’ve seen how consistent access to fresh fruits and vegetables can support healthier lifestyles while helping neighbors feel more empowered about their health.”
